Thora Illing wrote the following (thanks Thora):
“Probus movie-goers were among the packed audience at the Star for Downton Abbey: the grand finale, the cinematic last chapter of the stately home saga first aired on British TV 16 years ago. Most of the original cast play their old roles, the costumes and décor are as lavish as ever and the dialogue often witty. The year is 1930 and the Crawley clan must adapt to change and deal with scandal and financial woes. The glitzy setting makes it wonderful escapist stuff, with an optimistic ending.”
The group all seemed to enjoy the movie.

Sidney Probus Current Events
Current Events Group Meets Monthly
Hello all you Current Events folks
We ARE scheduled for a Current Events meeting this month. This time, due to other commitments, the meeting is on a WEDNESDAY July 23 at 1 PM at the usual location – St. Andrew’s Anglican Church at Fourth and Oakville in Sidney. The usual process applies. I will show up shortly before 1:00 to collect the boardroom key. We will share the $44 cost of the room according the number attending, so please bring some Toonies & Loonies to facilitate the math.
Please let me know if you plan to attend. If attendance is less than 5, I will defer until another time.
Cheers, Ken Marsh vikayakguy@gmail.com

Wine Tasting Group Report
March 12th saw the first wine tasting meeting of the new
Probus wine tasting group. We had one previous
‘organizational meeting’ which naturally included the tasting of
some wines, but this meeting was dedicated to the wines
themselves, and of course the congeniality of a group of
(somewhat) like-minded individuals was a great
accompanying bonus.
We tasted a selection of four delightful BC red wines, a
selection which appealed to the wine interest of our members
as well as being an appropriate choice in the current political
environment. Our host supplemented his/her selection of
choice local wines with a very complimentary charcuterie
board for palate cleansing, and absolute enjoyment.
The group meets at 4:00 pm on the second Wednesday of the month, the venue
rotating among the members. As a new group, we are looking to welcome additional
Probus members who have an interest in sampling wines. If you are interested, but a bit
apprehensive about participating on a tasting group, don’t be intimidated: our group is
probably better described as wine enthusiasts than wine connoisseurs. Of course I say
that on a personal level, but I suspect the other members have a somewhat similar
overview. If you are interested, please email me at ‘bob@witzel.com‘

LIFESAVERS
On Wednesday, February 12th, 39 Sidney Probus members became “Lifesavers”. In small groups during the day. we attended classes in what to do in the event of witnessing a sudden cardiac arrest. We learned how to perform CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Dr Ralph Hayes led the sessions, held at the B.C. Aviation Museum, and he instilled confidence in us to be able to respond in an emergency. Our thanks go to Dr. Hayes and to the Probus Events Committee for organizing these important sessions. There are now 39 more what Dr. Hayes called “Emergency Responders” in the Sidney area.
